I've always loved these signs. When we were kids, during a holiday in France, my younger brother used to call the man in the sign "Billy Cid". Like Billy the Kid, but not exactly right.
At the end of the holiday we discovered that he used to call it like that because in France the man wears a hat that makes the figure look like a 50's mobster.
That's the power of signs...
